The Day Before Yesterday....

..........our eldest son had the privilege of receiving his First Holy Communion, having made his First Confession the night before.

It was a wonderful day. Not only for him, but for all of us as well.

Gifts From London

Above you can see a sample of the various pencil sharpener figurines, crusader figurines, and English money my Knight brought home with him. Also a few interesting rocks he collected while strolling along the Thames.....

......and here is my adorable tea-for-one tea set. As well as some "loose" English tea! I can hardly wait to try it!

We spent the early afternoon looking though the over four-hundred pictures (!) he took during his sight~seeing rambles. Amazing! What a wonderful experience. And I almost feel like I was there as well, after looking at his fabulous pictures. But the best part of all is having him home again!

Music...

Lettuce

Went out to the vegetable garden this afternoon to finish planting (lettuce, cucumber, zucchini, cabbage, spinach, eggplant, pumpkins, broccoli, and green peppers), but before I could get started, I had to fill a huge bowl with volunteer lettuce!

~Now that's my kind of gardening...........;)

Wondering.....

........how it can suddenly get so hot! Whew! It was in the 90's again today.

........why God has blessed me with such precious children. I certainly have done nothing to deserve them. It seems like I appreciate them even more when my Knight is gone. What I would do without their sweet little faces, I do not know.

.........why it feels so good to find deals at garage sales. I spent about fifty dollars today, but I have so much to show for it!

..........why listening to the rain falling outside makes me feel so cozy and yet so alone all at the same time, without my Knight.

...........why I am staying up so late blogging when I really should be in bed!

And on that note.......goodnight!

Lilacs

They are finally blooming! So today I gathered two large vase fulls.........ah, I have missed their sweet scent!

Last I checked, the thermometer was reading 90 degrees. It's hard to be productive on a day that hot. What I need is a hammock out under the lilacs.......and a glass of icy raspberry tea.

Mmmmmmm.............

I can dream, right?;)

"To London.....

......to visit the Queen."
Well, not exactly. But my Knight left for London today on business. He will be there til next Tuesday, and I must say I'm pretty excited for him. I know he probably won't have a lot of time to devote to sight-seeing, it being a business trip and all, but still! It is London.

We all really miss him.........and he hasn't even been gone a full day yet! But I know next Tuesday will be here before we know it.

And, Dear, If you happen to read this; we love you!

Birthday Cake With Breakfast.......

I knew it would pair so well with coffee, that I couldn't resist!;)

~Just a thin slice though, as Big Brother's cake turned out to be very rich.

I used the recipe for Devil's Food Cake Cockaigne which I found in Joy Of Cooking. And I filled it with the Coconut Pecan Filling, as was suggested. Then I iced it with a homemade fudge icing......and finally topped it off with a big "cloud"of whipped cream for Big Brother's jets to fly through.

Yes, quite rich..........but it's a slice of chocolate lovers heaven!

"Now We Are Six"

When I was One,

I had just begun.

When I was Two,

I was nearly new.

When I was Three,

I was hardly me.

When I was Four,

I was not much more.

When I was Five,

I was just alive.

But now I am six, I'm as clever as clever.

So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.

~A. A. Milne

*Edited to add that the the photography credits go to my Knight.

He's been enjoying our "new" camera too!:)

On Houseplants

"It makes sense to choose houseplants that like the conditions in your home and your lifestyle. For instance, cacti like warm sunny rooms, while ferns and ivy are shade lovers. If you tend to overwater azaleas will be quite happy with this, and bromeliads are tolerant when you forget.

Plants need feeding regularly to encourage them to flower, produce new roots, and maintain healthy leaf growth. And do talk to your plants by all means ~you are breathing carbon dioxide on them, which they need in order to survive. You can look out for pests and diseases or signs of stress, too.

As well as looking good, houseplants help increase feelings of relaxation and wellbeing, absorb toxins such as carbon monoxide and VOCs, and help you to breathe more easily. They also release more than 90 percent of the water you give them, helping to humidify the atmosphere."
