My Grandma's Roses

For those of you who may not know, the house in which we live was first inhabited by my maternal grandparents. Actually, it's nickname "the cabin" was originally given to it by my grandmother. Out front are two lovely rose bushes that she planted and tended. They were gifts from her children. Grandma loved roses, and they seemed to love her too, as they always bloomed beautifully under her loving care. I have many memories of going to visit her as a little girl when she lived in town. Once her roses were blooming she would always send me home with one; the stem wrapped in a dampened paper towel. How special it made me feel!

A few weeks ago, the five year anniversary of her death passed. I miss her very much, and feel so privileged to be able to tend these lovely roses that she left behind. But as lovingly as I may tend them, I think they still are blooming just for her.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

The Good, the Bad, and the Snuggly

Wow. These past several days have been crazy! I did get two weeks worth of shopping done yesterday. And I finished washing all the laundry and weeded my front vegetable garden. That's good, right?

But remember those suitcases I was talking about in my last post?.....Well, unfortunately they are still there. A little less full than they were previously, but still there. And my bed is covered in a gigantic pile of clean laundry that somehow needs to get folded (-where are those fairy godmothers when you need them?!) before bedtime or my prince charming and I will have no place to sleep tonight. And then to top it all off, I feel like I just want to drop into bed -clean laundry or no clean laundry- and take a nice long nap. But I can't because I need to make dinner......and clean my kitchen.......and take care of the things I wrote about above.......and even a few things I neglected to mention....( -like the mysterious mold that started to grow on the children's toilet while we were away.......EEEEEEWWWWWW!!!!!!!!)

So there you you have it, good and bad.

Oh, yes, and if you are wondering what in the world I meant by "the Snuggly", feel free to view the picture below:

Gone, and Back Again

We just got back from a two week trip out to Wyoming, and then Kansas, where we visited family and friends. It was really wonderful, and went by so fast! Now I am staring at piles of dirty laundry from the trip (somehow it multiplies, and I am always discovering more tucked away here and there........AAHHHH!!!!!), and of course stacks of suitcases that need to be emptied. And I am feeling soooo unmotivated.

Well, anyways, there you have it -why I have been missing for so long, and what I am up to at the moment. And as long as I don't get swallowed up by a giant suitcase, or buried alive in an avalanche from the ever-growing mountain of dirty laundry, I'll post something a bit more interesting tomorrow. At least I'll try.......

Breakfast

Today, I made mushroom and chive scrambled eggs and popovers.

I've always wanted to try my hand at popovers, but thought that I needed one of those special popover pans to do it. Then I discovered recently that a lowly muffin tin will do the job just fine! I must say that I am quite pleased with the results. They are light as air and deliciously crisp on the outside. We ate them with a bit of butter and a drizzle of maple syrup. Yum!

Rain

" Oh, no," returned Anne cheerfully. "..... I haven't minded it at all. I kept thinking how much good the rain will do and how glad my garden must be for it, and imagining what the flowers and buds would think when the drops began to fall."

Miss Posy's Paper Doll House

What I wouldn't have given for a doll house like this when I was a little girl!
